We have just had a fabulous week at Skendleby. The house was magnificent and our large party of adults and children had plenty of space. The facilities were excellent and Ruth, Jen and Mel were fantastically helpful.
Jen’s food was wonderful.
I’m looking forward to arranging another trip to Skendleby
We have just enjoyed our 4th year at Skendleby which was as great as ever. Our extended family of 25 had another amazing time at our annual family get together, which was made even more memorable by the 6 inches of snow that fell and made everything look even more picturesque.
As ever, Ruth and all her team made us very welcome and the house was up to it’s usual high standards. We look forward to our next trip there. It’s like a home away from home.
We spent a long time evaluating venues for a family reunion for Christmas 2011. We are so happy that we decided on Skendleby Hall. My sisters and their families were coming from America and Spain and so we needed to impress. Skendleby certainly didn’t let us down. Plenty of rooms for everyone and the Drawing room was the perfect place for us all to gather at the end of a busy day.
Ruth and Melanie were fantastic, always there when I had a question or query and made sure that our stay at the Hall was perfect in every way. Thank you so much.
The men enjoyed clay pigeon shooting with Dave whilst the girls were pampered by Skendleby Hall’s beautician Sarah. We all enjoyed karting and walks surrounding the Hall and on the beach. The local Blacksmiths Arms hosted us for a quiz night and laid on a buffet, great fun!
Jen at Skendleby Catering provided a mexican feast for our arrival and endulged us in a sumptuous meal to celebrate my sister’s 50th birthday. Jen also supplied us with desserts for the entire duration at Skendleby which were scrumptious. Also, the meat supplied by Jen’s butcher was the best meat any of us had every tasted. Thank you Jen.
Melanie had organised help to magic away the previous night’s turmoil. What a transformation they made to the main kitchen everyday.
The age group in our party of 21 ranged from 6 years old to +70. I can honestly say that everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and Christmas 2011 will be remembered forever. We recommend Skendleby Hall as the perfect venue for a family get together for any occasion.
We have just enjoyed a wonderful weekend at Skendleby Hall. We were celebrating our brothers 60th birthday and couldn’t possibly have chosen anywhere better. We enjoyed the fish and chip supper and Sunday lunch from the Blacksmiths Arms and used the great facilities to cater for ourselves the rest of the time. We had enough space to spread around and also enough communal spaces to comfortably be together for meals, watching the families band and enjoying one of the family play the piano. The boys loved the snooker and other games while the girls enjoyed being pampered by Sarah in the Beauty Room! We even found time to sample the Karting which was a fun activity for everyone. Thank you everyone from Skendleby for providing such a great family home for a whole family to be able to come together and enjoy some quality time!
We have just returned from a fabulous week at Skendleby Hall – all my family for my 50th birthday! We were really impressed with the bedrooms and communal rooms. It was wonderful for everyone to be able to get together but to have the space to spread out! We organised snooker and table tennis tournaments, didn’t quite finish the air hockey tournament and forgot to have a go at Karaoke! We had two fabulous meals catered for us by Jen from Skendleby catering and some of us had a go at clay pigeon shooting with Dave, which was a great morning ending with tea, coffee, Port and biscuits! I would certainly recommend Skendleby to anyone looking for a relaxing time with a large group of friends and/or family with plenty to occupy both children and adults. Hopefully we’ll all be back again sometime. A tip: don’t put your son in a Clock Tower bedroom…..it’s a long, winding trek to say goodnight each night!
We spent 4 days at Skendleby Hall just before Christmas and wished it could have been longer. We thought the house was pretty perfect and it worked really well for our large family group. It was beautifully set up and was very comfortable and warm. It was great to have so many different living and recreation areas to spread out into, with such a range of games, dress-up costumes, the piano for a carol-singing session, and so on. A wonderful experience and certainly an exciting one for the 4 of our family over here from Western Australia. There were good trips out to Lincoln Cathedral, Gibraltar Point and Old Bolingbroke, but best of all was being able to spend time together at the house. Many thanks from the Cripps family.
We have just been to Skendleby Hall for the weekend with our family (22 of us) to celebrate our Golden Wedding (11-11-11).We all had a wonderful time in this beautiful house which is very well equipped. There are plenty of games for the children, and snooker, chess, card tables etc for the adults. Also the kitchens have everything that you are likely to need. All the rooms are beautifully furnished. The Drawing room, and Master Bedroom are out of this world.
All five of our families said that they would like to return again in the future to this house that has such a lovely atmosphere.
We all have lots of photo`s and happy memories that we will be talking about for years.
What a fantastic weekend -the house lived up to all our expectations and more. Our guests were stunned as they drove up the driveway in the dark to be greated by lights blazing from this stunning property. Our 9 year old commented it wouldn’t have matter if it had rained all weekend as there was so much to do. Whilst the children enjoyed some great games of hide and seek, the adults were able to rest and relax. As we left everyone asked when are we coming back and our two children asked if they could buy a house like this! A superb venue for a family reunion.
Just back from a wonderful weekend at Skendleby Hall. The house is amazing – beautifully furnished and loads of space. It has everything you need to keep the kids and the adults entertained and it was so nice that all the adults could relax and socialise in the evening without the need for babysitters. It was great seeing peoples reactions as they arrived and had a look around – the photos on the website just give a tiny taster of how lovely the place is.
I hope we get the opportunity to visit again soon.
We all had a fabulous time at Skendleby Hall, the weather the ambience, the staff who welcomed us, everything went to plan for my 50th birthday. What a place to celebrate, we will be talking about it for years to come and so many lovely memories. All rooms were well equipped and comfortably tasteful. We thoroughly enjoyed it, and would love to come back.

12th – 16th August 2011
Once again (3rd time) our family reunion was a complete success due mainly to the wonderful home and surroundings of Skendleby Hall, we are a very large party and there have never been any complaints at all, we range in age from under 1 year to over 65 and no-one ever gets bored. We love to gather for meals in the dining room or weather permitting BBQ and eat outside enjoying the scenery and peace and quiet (well quiet surroundings – not our noisy lot). You can be assured that we will be back. Thank you
Teddy and John’s Golden Wedding July 8th – 15th
I don’t know how many comments say ‘exceeded all expectations’ but here is another one!
I had been planning our Golden Wedding celebrations for 2 years. 25 of us between the ages of 10 and 73 years.
From the initial enquiry onwards Ruth and Melanie have been there to respond to our every need.
If you could have seen the looks of pleasure and amazement on every single face as they arrived and did the ‘Grand Tour’ you would have some idea of how amazing this place is.
Although not all could stay for the whole week, the unanimous response was that this place is incredible and when can we come again! Something here for every one, no matter what age, and plenty of room for a large group with a wide age range.
Also worthy of a mention is the Blacksmiths Arms. We did the fish and chips on Friday, Sunday Lunch and Steak Night on Wednesday. The meals progressed from very good indeed to excellent.
Everyone is agreed – we just have to come again. I’m not sure if we can wait til our 60th, we may have to make it for our 55th!!
Thanks again for for what was one of the very best weeks of our lives.
Our weekend will be remembered for years to come. The house and gardens are absolutely stunning, the facilites within outstanding, with every need catered for. The weekend was just too short and we wished we had booked it for longer. A very big thank you to Ruth and Melanie for making this such a hugely enjoyable birthday event. We would also thoroughly recommend the catering offered by Jen, our dinner on Saturday night was delicious. Once again thank you to everyone involved in making this a most memorable weekend for Jacqui and all her friends.
We spent a long weekend at Skendleby last week for my wife’s 40th birthday. It was a real family occasion with young and old from 12 months to 60 years.
When we entered the house the size and splendour was amazing and the pictures on the web site just don’t do it justice. We knew immediately that we had made the right choice coming to Skendleby.
Every single person had a fantastic weekend with the space to find your own corner or to gather in one big group, lots of games and activities and the coast just over 10 miles away – nobody was ever stuck for options and at meal times and in the evenings there was chatter, TV, kids games and the card & snooker rooms.
The kids were occupied from waking till bedtime and spent every dry moment outisde on the lawn playing football or cricket.
Melanie, Ruth and David welcomed us and were very helpful throughout our stay, nothing was too much trouble – even when we set the smoke and fire alarms off twice when we burnt the toast! They were unseen but we knew they were close enough if we needed some help with anything.
There were a few tears in the eyes when we left, every single person would have stayed longer.
We are already planning our next visit, everyone wants to make it an annual event – maybe Christmas next time?
Well what can we say?
The family had been talking about going away together for years, so we decided to book a long break around the whitsun holidays.(so everyone could make it).
We chose Skendleby hall.
On approach to the beautiful House via the Lovely grounds we realised we had definately made the right choice.
Ruth was there to greet us and gave us a guided tour.
We could not believe the high standard of decor in each room.
The entertainment rooms were a hit with everyone, from Piano playing Divas to deadly serious snooker tournaments.
The facilities in the Kitchens were excellent, more than adequate to cope with the 22 of us for the 5 days and nights we were there.
Being able to dine together was also very popular with everyone,we did this on every occasion, I will have to admit it was rather noisy on those occassions but great fun.
We would then retire to the Grand Drawing room (probably the best room in the house for me), for various themed evenings.
A fantastic time was had by all.
No one wanted to leave.
We have hundreds of photos of the house between us to remind us of our time there.
Just as other guests have said, we are still talking about the time there and I believe will be for sometime to come.
Everyone wished we could have stayed longer.
Yes! Skendleby Hall definately exceeded everyones expectations.
Thank you from all of us!
Have just returned home after fabulous weekend with 23 friends. The house and grounds were stunning and the standard of each room surpassing expectations. We opted for food delivery (Waitrose deliver!) but the level of facilities make any catering option viable and effortless. Attentive but discrete help from the owners make this a really excellent venue.
We have just returned from a family celebration week-end at Skendleby and have had an amazing time. There were 23 of us with ages ranging from 6months to retirement age and all needs were catered for in this wonderful house. All of the rooms are comfortable and thoughtfully decorated. The house has a warm friendly atmosphere and we loved the drawing room particularly. The owners and staff were so helpful in sorting our requests for beauty therapies and food deliveries and nothing was too much trouble. We will certainly return and recommend to our friends.
WE rented Skendleby Hall for 5 days for my wedding in December 2010 and everyone is still talking about the fantastic time they had! Driving up to the house, all lit up in the snow with roaring fires and big comfy sofas everywhere was really a showstopping scene for my husband’s family who’d had a long journey from south Italy. The bedrooms were beautiful, the facilites were better than anyone could have asked for and the catering by Jen and her wonderful team for the wedding breakfast and some of the meals in the days after were spectacular!
The house was lovely and warm and I only wish I could have stayed longer, or had less last minute wedding prep to do so I could have enjoyed everything more. It was the perfect place to bring two families together who had never met and didn’t even share a language. The men enjoyed the billiards room and there was barely a moment when there wasn’t a game going on. The little ones had plenty to keep them occupied and everyone else could relax on one of the many comfy sofas watching the big tv or in the drawing room with a bit of christmas music and a brandy. The Christmas decorations were beautiful too and really set the scene.
We would all love to come back and I am planning my next visit now, maybe with less family to deal with though! One of the italian children was crying for weeks after the wedding saying he wanted to go back to Skendleby Hall! You really made an impression and our wedding was all the more forgettable for the beautiful house, food and service! Thank you!
What an amazing house! We rented it for my husband’s 50th birthday weekend; there were 12 adults & 9 children and everyone had a fantastic time. The reception rooms (drawing room, TV room, games room & music room) are amazing – breathtakingly lovely yet cosy & comfortable. The dining room was just right for a grand birthday dinner (with lovely food from Jen at Skendleby Catering – thanks Jen!) and the kitchen had everything we needed. The snooker table went down very well with the husbands (as did the 52″ TV for the rugby & football!) and the kids had a superb time playing table tennis, air hockey, table football and 5-a-side. The bedrooms were *superb* – everyone had a really splendid room; nobody had to “make do”. In fact we should have had another family with us but unfortunately they couldn’t come due to illness – there would have been plenty of room. The common rooms and bedrooms are all very well furnished and comfortable, with ample space to get together or to find a quiet spot. All the facilities are of a high standard with plenty of space and equipment in the kitchen and dining to cater for a large group. The house and the grounds are very well maintained and the setting is quiet and rural, with a cosy local pub, and the market town of Spilsby just 5 minutes drive away. I would definitely recommend this as a good quality venue for a group to get together.
I spent my 50th birthday at the hall in January 2011 with family and friends aged 12 months to 81 years old and we all had a fabulous time. The venue exceeded all expectations and we have wonderful memories of a fabulous weekend. I recommend it highly. The clay pigeon shooting was fabulous too!
We have been 2x and absolutely love the house – we are booked to go back in April. The house totally exceeded our expectations hence we have been back and has now become our country retreat for a long weekend every year.
Would highly recommend the house – it has everything you would need and more….
I had a wonderful weekend stay back in June 2009, the house is superb, really well furnished and equipped to the high standards you’d expect, this was only surpassed by the help and general ‘can do’ service I recieved from all concerned with the booking and the time we were there.
